Department of Nutrition

The Department of Nutrition was established on 1st June 2001. At the time of inauguration of the course the study was confined to only pass courses and honours in nutrition course was launched after 4 years. Since the inception the department has played a vital role in establishing nutrition as an academic subject and focus to inculcate a research mind among the students by organizing various community survey programmes. Department was started with only eighteen students and three faculties. With a growing awareness in the field of nutrition, the department experienced an increase in the strength and expansion of the department in terms of infrastructure. This programme teaches the students to apply nutritional science in order to promote health and to treat different diseased conditions. Department publishes a wall magazine “NUTRITION TODAY’’ every year to provide students with knowledge about the relationship between food, nutrition and health.

Objectives of our curriculum:

  • To encourage and enhance the value of proper food habits and its effect on our health among our students and surrounding community people.
  • To train and equip the students with necessary skills to understand the fundamental and advanced concepts of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • To enable the students to comprehend the concepts of Nutrition, to gain a command over the subject which they can apply in clinical practice and day to day life.
  •  To pursue nutrition oriented courses as a career option.
     

Add –On Courses Of the Department:         

Presently department is offering our students two certified add-on courses namely, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Food processing. We have started this course to increase the chances of getting a job and a lucrative career after their course completion. These courses are improving the professional skills and knowledge of the students.

  • Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics is an integrated and professional program preparing students to work as Nutritionists and Dieticians and explore how it affects the health of the individual and the nation, and also to discover how diet can be used in the treatment of disease.
  • The objectives of the Food Processing course is to build up and train the students about food processing sectors. It is a broad field focusing different types of food production and processing which ultimately extend the self -life of the food products.
