The Department of Music has been plying a pivotal role in organising various cultural events which are a part of the academics too. The students ply an important role in churning out the essense out of these events. It hs always been a pleasure for the Department to host and arrange various cultural-traditional events.
The Department started its journey in the year 2000 with Music as a General (Pass) course, affiliated to Vidyasagar University. Later, in 2006, the Honours course in Music got recognition. The pupils get to learn Indian Classical, Semi Classical as well as Bengali (Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Atulprasadi etc.) and Regional Music from a host of learned faculties. At present, the 3 years’ CBCS and 4 years’ CCFUP NEP programs are being taught at the Department.
Aims and Objectives
- To impart knowledge of Indian Music to prospective students.
- To prepare the students in developing their inherent culturally rich talent.
- To motivate students to go through rigorous and extensive study of Music as a subject through regular Counselling so that they can opt for various professional courses after the completion of UG.
- To excel in areas of teaching learning and research.
- To justify the standard through continuous quality assessment.
- To create competence, conscience and compassion among students.
- To help mass understand that Music is not merely a subject of entertainment, but a hardcore academic subject with multifaceted outcome.
