The Dept. of Political Science of Mahishadal Girls’ College has started with one full –time Lecturer and a modest number of students, since the inception of the college, i.e. the year 1969. Within a few years the number of students increased and for this the Department got second post in the subject. At that time, only pass course and Higher Secondary (HS) teaching of the subject was going on. At last in the year 1996, the Department got the scope for Honours Teaching . So at that time thre were three full time lecturers Dr. Narayan Chandra Maity (Principal) , Prof. Indira Gangopadhyay and Prof. Krishna Saha and two part-time lecturers in the Department. With all their earnest efforts, the has come to good position in the college and enhanced the scope of female higher education not only in the district but in other adjacent district also. Now in the era of Globalisation, the department tried best to serve the students in respect of personnel development. With this end in view the department arranged Seminars, Wall Magazines, Quiz contest, Extempore and Debate Compitition, Youth Parliament Competition and so on. Presently we are going to started add on course on Human Rights.
Apart from their day to day routine studies, students of the department were given specific topics within their syllabus and asked to speak to deliver speeches on there are of interest within a given time frame.
The subject Political Science offers major aspects of 1. Administration 2. Major Constitutions 3. Parliamentary affairs 4. Urban and Rural Politics and Administration 5. Gender Politics and Feminism 6. Indian Freedom Movements’ 7. Indian Government and Politics 8. Nationalism and Internationalism 9. Human Rights 10. International Relations and Law 11. Globalisation. 12.. Global Politics and International Organization and so on. Which are very relevant and effective in our present day society.
With all the earnest efforts of the faculty members led the departmental students, wisdom and Knowledge not only to do well in the examination but also in their future life. These also enable them to be a responsible citizen of India.
