The Department of Geography was established in 1994 and has successfully completed its 30 years. The department has the potential to run 4-years degree course according to the NEP structure. The department at present has four faculties specialized in diverse fields of Geography and two non-teaching staffs. Our faculties are highly qualified, experienced and dynamic who have taken part in various courses like refresher course, orientation programme, short term course, workshop; presented papers in different international and national seminars and published many research articles in reputed journals.  Two faculties have experience in research on different aspects of development. Apart from chalk and talk, teaching aids (maps, globe, charts, models etc.), audiovisual methods (LCD projector, Overhead projector, Slide projector) are used to make the teaching-learning process more interesting. Along with the theoretical framework the department has established a well-equipped Cartography laboratory and a GIS laboratory to enhance the practical skills of the students through practical applications in the fields of Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS and Cartography. Students are trained to use Toposheets, Air Photographs, Satellite Imagery, Weather Maps, Geological Maps, different instruments like Barometer, Hygrometer, Thermometer, Prismatic Compass, Dumpy Level, Theodolite, Abney Level, Clinometer, Altimeter, Laser Distance Meter, Mirror Stereoscope, GPS etc. The department also has a wide variety of books in the departmental library. Apart from classroom teaching, we conduct field surveys, departmental tours, publication of wall magazine as well as departmental magazine, awareness programmes having environmental, gender, ethical values, class seminars, quiz competitions, group discussions, mentoring sessions, seminars, special lectures and cultural programmes. Field surveys and educational tours are organized every year which help the students to have field experiences of geographical features, interact with people and increase their communication skills, to acquire practical experiences from the field and to grow interest for further research work. The department has introduced an add-on course on tools & techniques of field study. The students of the department are encouraged to participate in different extra and co-curricular activities like, sports, singing, dancing, debate, model making, decoration, etc. along with their regular classes. Our department is actively engaged in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and Extension activities through awareness programmse, Swachha Bharat Abiyan, activities of NSS and NCC, Unnat Bharat Abiyan, etc. Our department tries to provide the best environment to foster a future geographer having sound knowledge in theoretical as well as Applied Geography in solving real life problems.
